The good lord blessed us in August 03! What an exciting time in your life.. Finding out you are pregnant and life as 2 is soon to be life as 3. We were so excited and totally looking forward to the next 9 months. I must say I had a perfect pregnancy. Had no sickness, full of energy, just awesome.. I was due on April 23, 04 but that date came and went with no signs of labor.. I was getting so uncomfy and couldnt imagine going 2 weeks past my due date. On the night of April 26, 04 a Monday evening, I decided to mix good ole CASTOR OIL and orange juice and made the strongest RASBERRY LEAF TEA (LIKE 6 BAGS) and was determined I would go into labor. Well either it was time or this craziness worked because I woke up on April 27th and was in LABOR! Called Justin and he came home and off we went. We were gonna have a baby..
We got there and Presbyterian has really upgraded since then.. The triage was behind curtains and not too organized by all means.. got me sat up and and I was a good 4 and in active labor.. They moved me to the laboring room where they broke my water and I went about an hour and got an epi.. It took the edge off but it was not a good one by any means now that I have had a 2nd baby and know..
By 7 that evening I was a full 10 so they moved me to the delivery room ( again this was before they updated Land D) I had no pressure and didnt need to push but the nurse said to start pushing.. I was so confused.. I said I dont need to.. She said well lets just try.. So I began to push a lil after 7 and all I could feel was really bad pain in my left side as if I was pushing her through my left siide.. After 2 hrs of this crap and no progress the dr came whom wasn't mine just the dr on call through Pres and said we need to get her out. I was in so much pain that when he said that I said please lord.. He whipped out that blue sheet thing and got the vacuum out and tore me like crazy getting this child out.. When he stuck the vacuum on it suctioned her right side of face and head hence the pain on my left side when I would push. She was coming sideways and had not even dropped in my birth canal. no conehead or anything. She was beginning to bruise but nothing bad.. I had 20 some odd stiches and had begun to hemorage (sp) and it took over an hour to stop it.. It was not a good birth at all, but all sat aside I had just given birth to my first born precious baby girl.. ONE OF THE HAPPIEST DAYS OF MY LIFE.. Kayleigh Madison Rawls*born April 27th, 2004 @ 9:07 pm*weighing in at 8lbs8oz and 21 inch long.. healthy and beautiful..
Months went by and we all started to notice her right eye didnt shut when she cried, she had a horrific time sucking and never could get a good latch.. When the smiles started it was not a full gummy smile... So at 6 months we decided to take her to a Neurologist. He recomended we wait till a yr because if it is the nerve it still could reattach and and be good. A year came and nothing so off to another Neurologist at UNMH.. We kept hearing the same thing. So we took her to a pedi Neurologist where he had us get an MRI to rule out any tumors blocking the growth of the nerve.. Again thank you GOD it came back fine... So we started doing research on our own and found that with all what the info the many other drs had given to us that it was for sure her 7 th cranial nerve.
Her 7 th CRANIAL NERVE had been damaged to to tramautic birth injury.. Although he documented NOTHING in her chart we know by the delivery thats what happened.. Your 7th Cranial Nerve affects the muscles that control your eyes, nose, mouth, and can cause major problems. In most cases of this type of paralysis of the face , the eye cant shut at night and a patch has to be worn to prevent serious injury to the eye. Due to the lord again we are so blessed because Kayleigh CAN shut hers at night.. It affects her speech, her smile, and her ability to chew.. She has compisated through the years and does really well but it is more work to chew than it is for one of us... She is absoluty gorgeous and is such a little diva.. I just wanted to get that out there. It is hard for me esp. knowing she will be having surgery around age of 7. It is callled Smile Surgery and you can google it.. It is an amazing surgical procedure and I am not doing it because I dont like her smile I am doing it for her. kids are mean in school and although they arent yet the older she gets the meaner they will get... We are going to Duke in North Carolina in June to consult with the Dr we have chosen to do this opperation on Kayleigh. Jeffery Marcus is his name.... We have been able to follow others who have had it done by him and he is amazing..... If you are at all interested i can send you links.. Please keep us in your prayers.. So for any of you wondering that is that..
Oh and if you watch American Idol, there was a girl on there with it if you recall back they just let her go Tuesday..Hope your all having a blessed week..
